On Tuesday I shared a gargantuan list of all the Silly Little Tasks involved in foodwork to try and really hit it home that it’s not just about the cooking. When *gestures wildly* these men tell people – which let’s be real, means women and people socialised as women – to ‘make time for things they value’ or say ‘it’s cheaper to cook from scratch, and really easy, actually’, they are devaluing all the emotional, cognitive, and physical labour that goes into putting food on the table.

If it feels like a lot, it’s because it is.

That’s why, as much as van Tulleken and Spector and Pollan like to chirrup on about health and a corrupt food industry, we have to be clear that these conversations are just as much about redomesticating women, as they are about anything else.

So, until such times as we can Abolish The Family Meal, we need to find ways to make this shit less exhausting, less alienating, less laborious. TELL ME YOUR SECRETS SNACKERS.
