Hello Snackers!!

It has been a minute – by which I mean an unending school summer holiday – since we checked in. How are you? How was your summer?

A lot has been happening in the world – the ongoing starvation and genocide in Gaza, the continued rise of fascism and increasing violence towards racialised people in the UK, especially asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants.

In the nutrition world Joe Wicks has beef with Jaffa Cakes. Jamie Oliver has written a 'healthy eating' book that I'm considering giving the van Tulleken treatment. Serena Williams is editorialising Ozempic. And, to my point that we are reaching peak-peri - Sophie Ellis Bexter has released a perimenopause album.

I have essays coming up covering the legacy that Jamie Oliver has left on school meals, Joe Wicks and the scientific management of the body, and the regressive logic of 'skinny influencers'.

I recently saw Caroline Crampton share a photo montage of her tranquil summer spent in Orkney. My summer was approximately 30,000x more chaotic than that, but there were some sweet and tender parts in amongst the general vibe of upheaval. Regardless, I liked the idea of an old-fashioned photo dump so am sharing some snaps below.

Let me know how your summer was in the comments.
